Borisy-Rudin Receives Funding to Study Impact of Local Policies on Alcohol Environment in College Cities

Felice Borisy-Rudin, JD, PhD, assistant professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology and policy analyst for the Wisconsin Alcohol Policy Project, has been awarded $49,998 from the for her project titled Understanding Relationships Between Colleges, Local Alcohol Policies, Drinking, and Health Outcomes. Borisy-Rudin’s work will seek to address excessive alcohol use by young adults in Wisconsin through evaluation of communities, environments, and policy factors that contribute to binge drinking and underage alcohol use in Wisconsin cities with four‐year colleges and universities. Results from the project will be used to recommend ways to foster collaboration between colleges and municipalities to reduce underage and binge drinking and related harms. Recommendations will be returned directly to the campuses and communities participating in the project.

Funding for this work will begin Jan. 1, 2024 and will last for one year. Constance Kostelac, PhD, assistant professor in the Institute for Health and Equity’s Division of Epidemiology and Social Sciences and director of the CIC’s Division of Data Surveillance and Informatics, will serve as a co-investigator.
