Amy’s goal is to support patients’ values and goals and help with understanding and navigating the complexities of hereditary disease and genetic testing options. As a member of the clinical care team, Amy draws on experience as a medical librarian and as a genetic counselor to provide education on the genetic aspects of disease, review family and personal history to help clarify risks, and to be a resource for patients and the community at large.

Biography

Amy Donahue, MLIS, MGCS, Certified Genetic Counselor, joined the Linda T. and John A. Mellowes Center for Genomic Sciences and Precision Medicine genetic counseling team in June of 2018. Amy has lived across the country from Saranac Lake, NY to Seattle, WA, settling in Milwaukee in 2011. They graduated from Grinnell College (IA) in 2005 with a dual degree in mathematics and Russian language and received their Master of Library & Information Science from the University of Washington in 2007. Amy completed a two-year post graduate fellowship at the National Library of Medicine at the National Institutes of Health and worked as a medical librarian for several years before making the change to direct patient care. In 2016, they received a BS in Biological Sciences from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and completed their Master of Genetic Counseling Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2018.

Outside of work, Amy enjoys being part of the Milwaukee Ultimate (frisbee) community, being active in their neighborhood community (especially the Riverwest24 annual bike ride), and raising their family.
