Shary Pérez Torres, MPH, is the Community Health and Research Program Coordinator at the United Community Center in Milwaukee. The UCC is a large Latino nonprofit organization established in 1970, providing a variety of educational, health, and social service programs to the Milwaukee area Latino community. As part of the Health Research Department, she works to facilitate community health research projects, activities, and programs that promote the physical and mental well-being of Hispanics and community residents to reduce or eliminate inequities in the health and wellness of Latinos and the community. She collaborates in various projects and research grants with a variety of universities in Wisconsin.
Ms. Pérez serves as a bilingual Research Ambassador for the UW Collaborative Center for Health Equity. In this role, she works to advance community-academic research partnerships at the UCC and with the Latino communities of Milwaukee by University of Wisconsin faculty and staff. Mrs. Pérez Serves in the Wisconsin Public Health Council, is a member of the Milwaukee Latino Health Coalition (MLHC), and is the Co-chair of the MLHC Research Action Committee. In addition, Ms. Pérez serves as a community advisory board member on different research projects in Milwaukee, including the All of Us Research Program. Ms. Perez has a master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus and a bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras Campus.
