Keynote Presentation
Growing from your Professional Discipline to being Interdisciplinary
Keynote Speaker: Christopher J. Ott, MD '97, FACEP
Monday, November 4: 12 – 1 p.m. via Zoom (please register to receive meeting details)
About the Keynote Address
“A tree that is unbending is easily broken.” Lao Tzu
Careers in science and medicine necessarily begin with developing a narrow expertise that can sustain, with continued learning, an individual’s career for decades. However, in this keynote, you’ll learn that in order to be a successful leader in complex organizations, you must progress to a convergence mindset. Healthcare leaders must transcend the traditional, narrow specialty boundaries that develop early in our training and develop skills that promote collaboration, aggregate knowledge to understand matrixed systems and to balance competing priorities.
During this keynote, attendees will gain insights into how being an effective healthcare and science leader necessarily means evolving from a narrow discipline to leading the convergence of many disciplines. Individuals who create and maintain their own bandwidth, dedicate themselves to continuous learning and are open-minded are best suited to become the healthcare and science leaders of the future.
