Why I chose MCW: Throughout my time rotating on the MCW Orthopaedic Surgery teams as a medical student I was thoroughly impressed with the operating room skill and autonomy the residents demonstrated on a regular basis. On top of this, the residents and faculty had a high level of comradery both inside and outside of work.
What MCW has to offer a candidate: Excellent operative training with early graduated autonomy. Exposure to the full spectrum of Orthopaedics in house at MCW without the need for away rotations. Rotations at a VA medical center that help further clinical and surgical autonomy and skills. Great culture and friendships amongst the residents and staff.
What I like about living in Milwaukee: Milwaukee is a fun mid-sized great lakes city with a lot of the draws of a big city without many of the drawbacks. It has new and diverse restaurants, big name concerts, professional sports teams but is light on traffic, has a low cost of living, and is not overly crowded. I personally love the trails and park system, summer concerts and festivals, and the beer gardens.
