Why I chose MCW: As a graduate of MCW medical school, I chose to stay at MCW because of its reputation for training competent surgeons, the friendliness of all residents, attendings, and ancillary staff, and the access to high volume orthopedic trauma. It is truly a place where you learn a lot, and have fun doing it with a bunch of great people.
What MCW has to offer a candidate: MCW affords its trainees access to a high volume level 1 trauma center, one of the top pediatric hospitals in the nation, and a VA. It also gives residents access to a number of elective rotations with top community orthopods to better learn what life outside of academics is like should that appeal to you.
What I like about living in Milwaukee: I am originally from Milwaukee and love it here. It has everything you need from a city, but cheaper, easier to get around, and without long lines. Some of the most fun things to do are tour the dozens of breweries, hang out at beer gardens, visit any number of the cultural festivals in the summer, and of course go to Summerfest (a huge music festival with big name artists for a fraction of the price of a lollapalooza or Coachella).
