Why I chose MCW: The MCW Orthopedic Department is a phenomenal place to train as a resident. Some of the highlights of the program include the high volume and wide variety of cases we see in all areas of orthopedics, the trust staff has in residents to have us operate early in our training and often, as well as the sense of community among the residents and staff. As someone who is still not sure what area of orthopedics they want to specialize in, I am grateful to train at a program where I can gain experience in all aspects of orthopedics and have mentors within each subspecialty.

What does MCW have to offer a candidate: MCW gives residents the hands-on surgical experience necessary to excel at their future careers while providing excellent mentorship at every level of training. In addition, we are fortunate to rotate at excellent medical centers including busy level one trauma centers for both adult and pediatric patients, the VA, multiple community hospitals, and private practice groups. Seeing orthopedics in each of these settings allows residents to plan how they want to structure their future practice.

What I like about living in Milwaukee: Milwaukee is a fun city with lots to do at every time of year including concerts, festivals, sporting events and really good food. The city is easy to get around and affordable. There is also a lot of great nature surrounding the city. As an avid cyclist, I enjoy riding on all the bike trails and wide-open country roads around the city, as well as spending summer days at Lake Michigan playing sand volleyball. In the winter there are great cross-country skiing and snowshoe trails too. Overall, it's a great place to live!
