Biography

I am originally from a small town in the central part of Wisconsin and am your prototypical Wisconsin resident. My childhood was spent on a dairy farm and instilled in me a love for nature. I love spending time with my family and enjoying Wisconsin, especially all the outdoor activities available. I live near the Kettle Moraine Southern Unit and frequently hike, kayak, and bike.

For training, I completed medical school and residency at MCW. After graduating from residency, I did a chief residency year and am now working as a primary care physician on campus. I love primary care and in addition to being an Associate Program Director, I am the Ambulatory Care Track Program Director. Given my love for primary care, one of my career goals is to incorporate my enthusiasm for primary care into the residency program and education.

Research Interests

Currently, I am very active in curriculum design and evaluation with research involving the continuity clinic conference and outpatient handoffs. We have designed an integrative, innovative curriculum format at Froedtert East Clinics that involves a longitudinal curriculum of quality improvement, of evidence based medicine application to common outpatient diseases, and includes care team meetings. We are evaluating the impact of our curriculum on both resident education and patient care. For my handoff research, I have worked to try and standardize the outpatient handoff process and incorporate some education around the process and transition. My research looks at the resident satisfaction with the process and aspects of patient care impacted by the transition.

Additionally, I am expanding my research into reflective writing and have a current project with Drs. Kathlyn Fletcher and Marty Muntz looking at the impact of the COVID 19 pandemic on our residents. The whole process of using reflective writing has been an amazing learning experience for me and reading the reflections from our residents on the pandemic has been very insightful.
